The Alliance Française of Armidale invites you to celebrate Music Day on Wednesday 21 June at 7:30 at Kent House!

21-06-2017 19:30:00 21-06-2017 23:00:00 Australia/Sydney Fête de la Musique Let's celebrate Music with an open mic night and a French themed music quiz! Kent House, Armidale Alliance Française Armidale alliance.fr.armidale@gmail.com

In 1982, French minister of culture Jack Lang created La Fête de la Musique. This Music Day takes place on the 21st of June, which is the summer solstice in Europe, and welcomes the first day of summer. Every year, on this date, France turns into a giant stage with music everywhere, all day, all night. The population can enjoy and participate in music for free.

The festival has spread since then and music is celebrated on 21 June in countries across the world, including in the southern hemisphere.
Let’s join France, Europe and the rest of the world and celebrate MUSIC at Kent House on Wednesday 21 June!

It will be the last day of the AFA semester 1: what a great finale!

“Fête de la Musique” sounds like “Faites de la musique” which means play music, or make music. So, naturally, the event will be an open mic night: you are invited to bring instruments, music sheets, your voice, your band, your friends...

There will also be a French themed music quiz, which will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about French and francophone music in a fun way.

The AFA would like to insist on the fact that Music Day is about sharing ALL music, so you really don't have to know anything French to come and play tuba, dance hip-hop, yodel, sing a folk song, or ANYTHING you want, as long as it's musical.

This is a free event, with BYO instruments.
Drinks and nibbles will be served to give you the courage and confidence to perform!

If you already know you are going to play something, it would be great if you let us know.

Please tell us if you can make it:
